Tutorial: Bad Ass Ballerina Nails

Basically the concept of this design is an alternating pattern between lace nails and crackle nails. Any thin fabric lace can be used. YES, lace as in clothes' lace. Ratios, sizes and angles of sticking the lace is entirely up to you! ;)

Valentine's Day: Ladybird Manicure

You see, most Valentine manicures would include the usual hearts and glitter; so this year why not try something new? I know ladybirds are not the first that comes to mind when it comes to romance, but these creatures have meaning behind their adorable appearance. Red and black are both sexy and mysterious colours for your nails too! ;)

Some belief that if caught and then released, a ladybird would fly to your true love and whisper your name in his/her ear. Upon that, your true love would come searching for you. Also, ladybirds are a love symbol in which the number of spots indicate the number of months to pass before love comes.

Sorry about the picture quality, camera phone boooo. Nevertheless, that shouldn't stop you from creating your ladybird nails!

Steps:
1. Paint your whole nail a solid red. (I opted for a tangerine red)
2. Paint the tip of each nail a solid black.
3. Using a doting tool/nail brush, paint a black line on the middle of each nail.
4. With a doting tool, dot the red parts of the nail to create the ladybird's signature spots. About 5-7 dots per nail depending on the size of your nails. Refer to a picture of a real ladybird to guide you.
5. Seal it all in with a top coat! To prevent smudges, wait for the polish to complete dry before applying the topcoat. Also, apply top coat in swift motions and avoid painting over the same spot repeatedly.

Tutorial: Tuxedo Manicure

"I am wearing a gown but my nails are wearing tuxedos," Zooey Deschanel tweeted. Spotted on her nails during the 2012 Golden Globes, this design can be easily done at home. Very suitable for short nails too!

My nails. FORGOT ABOUT THEM BOWS!
Steps:
1. Paint your entire nail a colour which you want the "shirt" to be. I chose a baby pink but Zooey's was a solid white.
2. Paint the tips of your nails black. Use manicure strips or cellophane tape to guide you for extra precision.
3. To draw the bow, use a dotting tool/toothpick/sewing pin to draw a small dot. Draw two bigger dots on both sides of the small dot, forming a bow like shape.
4. Add 3 dots to resemble the buttons.
5. (Optional) Paint a layer of duo-chromatic glitter.
6. Seal in with a top coat and voilà!

Tutorial: Half Moon Manicure

Gray is the current IT-colour for the fall/winter season! Spotted on runways, all the way to hit shows like 90210, this elegant colour is back! If gray is too dull a colour for you, pump it up with a metallic colour as shown in this half moon manicure technique ;)
Steps:
1. Paint whole nail the base colour (gold). Leave to dry.
2. Place reinforcement tape/ round labeling sticker on bottom 1/3 of the nail securely. Paint the other colour (gray) on the exposed 2/3 of the nail.
3. Allow some time for it to dry partially. SLOWLY remove the tape.
4. Seal in with top coat.

Tips:
A solid color paired with a shimmery/metallic color works best. Two solid colors work well too.
Possible combinations: turquoise & a nude color; liquid silver & black; deep red & beigh; sea green & gold

Gray: self-mixed frankenpolish

Sorry about the poor lighting and smudges around the skin. Trust me when I say it looks way better under the sun ;)
